VideoLAN is generally considered the best Open Source multi-media player. It does all sorts of stuff and plays all sorts of stuff that commercial software does not do. It is well-supported and has hundreds of thousands of downloads over the course of many years.
Should you have any questions of need support you should seek it on the VideoLan Support page or on the VideoLAN forum pages.
The vast majority of our in stock media - DVDs and Videos - are of the UK/Europe Regional encoding. But a few of our media are from other regions and caution should be exercised when viewing. E.g., you are allowed to watch only 4 DVDs on a standard Windows XP setup from Regions other than your own - in which your operating system and media player are registered - with no problems. But on the occasion of viewing a fifth DVD Windows may lock up your media player setup. PLEASE be careful when viewing media from the USA or Asia or any Region other than that of UK/Europe.
Also, there are ways of getting around Region limitations by tinkering with your DVD player firmware or software, BUT many of these methods can really mess up your machine so do NOT try them without thoroughly researching the topic.
For good information on DVDs and Regions we suggest that you begin with the Wikipedia pages:
